Gallery Hop
Last Saturday, I went with a big group of people to my first Gallery Hop! It was quite an adventure, to say the least. We caught the #2 bus down to the Short North, which was, well, hopping. Just walking down the street was difficult, due to the large volume of passerby. We wandered down the bustling street, past restaurants, galleries, and street musicians, trying to find a good place to eat. Our group eventually split, and we went our separate ways to find food. My group settled on the Happy Greek, and had to wait a half hour to be seated. That was fine with us, because we got to visit more galleries. The art and wares in all of them were all spectacular. There were beautiful works of art, sometimes worth thousands, and hand-crafted goods for sale. We had our fill, and headed back to the Happy Greek. The atmosphere in the restaurant was quaint and lively, and the decor was very Mediterranean. Not to mention the food was delicious - I tried calamari, which was surprisingly great! All in all, the night was a success; I had good friends, good food, and great art.

On December first, I had the pleasure of going to the Gallery Hop. Despite the long lines and difficulty finding a place to eat, it was really fun. It was great to finally get to know the Short North a bit more. I feel that my understanding of the culture of Columbus is increased. Some of the galleries had pieces that were quite abstract in nature while others included sculptures that were more realistic. Most of the stores were very interesting to look through. Overall, it was a great and interesting night.
ReplyDeleteI also went gallary hopping on this night. It was my first time going to the Short North, so I did not know what to expect. After walking around for a little bit and eating, we started going into different art galleries. I did see a lot of impressive art that night, but I was also somewhat disappointed with some of the artists' works. Some of the artists wanted to make hundreds of dollars off pieces that, to be totally honest, looked like complete rubbish. I do respect creativity and innovation, but artists should recognize when their works are and are not worth hundreds of dollars. However, there were some great pieces that were very enjoyable to look at. Overall, I had a pretty fun time gallery hopping.
ReplyDeleteThe galley hop was extremely fun and I loved that I got to explore the Short North with some amazing people. I have to agree with Kevin, some of the art was exceedingly overpriced for the amount of work to create some of the art. But other artist's work made you sit and think. Overall it was a great evening with interesting art, people and a new Ohio State adventure that I got to share.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Erica's post here! I'm so glad I got to experience this, especially in such great company! I've been down through the short north a few times, but I've never seen it so busy! I was impressed with the amount of people who came out for it, even if it meant we had a long wait for food. But the gyro was TOTALLY worth the wait.
ReplyDeleteI'm very glad I went! It was a lot of fun!
I attended the gallery hop with a few close friends of mine on December first. Initially, I did not know what to expect; but, it soon proved to be an enjoyable evening. After a superb meal, we visited and appreciated the art in a vast multitude of quaint studios. It was a tremendous experience to view and critique the intricate, exquisite pieces. Overall, the gallery hop was quite intriguing and exciting.
