On Sunday, October 7th, the rain and wind ensured that everyone was going to stay home and dry. Everyone, that is, except for the seven of us who were signed up to play flag football. When 4 o'clock rolled around we braved the cold to board the bus. We didn't look like much, and certainly didn't feel like a cohesive group but once we got to the field we didn't have a choice.
We went in with no real plays or positions. But, by some miracle, the Humanities Scholars beat the Sports and Wellness Scholars, 28-12. My stellar moment was some quality defense. My finger tips brushed against the poorly thrown football and the receiver's mistake lead to a incomplete pass.
We have another game this Sunday, and hopefully we'll be able to pull it off... again.

This was actually the first game that I came to cheer! My Arts Scholar friend, Jackie, and I went together and braved the cold haha. Although the Arts Scholars won, it was a fun time!
ReplyDeleteWe've had three games so far and are 2-1. Apparently this is the best we've ever done so it's awesome to be a part of the team. We aren't the most organized or athletic bunch but somehow we all work well as a team and it's fun to get to know new people that I hadn't met before. By some miracle we happened to beat the Sports Scholars who were so intense and organized it was rather intimidating. I think what helped us was that we had no expectations we just went out there to have fun and see what happened and we won. Though we lost to the Art Scholars who had an extra player, that game was still fun and made us appreciate our laid back approach to the game. Play-offs start next week so we can only hope that we'll be as successful as we have been!
ReplyDeleteI played at the first Humanities flag football game this year. Because our opponents were the Sports and Wellness Scholars, we expected them to be a very tough opponent. However, we ended up playing very well and beating them. Supposedly this was our first win in a long time, so I proud to be a part of it.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, I was unable to make it to this glorious victory, but I can't resist recognizing the stellar contributions that humanities scholars made to the flag football team. This year turned out to be one for the ages, and next year will be even better!
