The Prestige was Prestigious

Wednesday Oct. 3, was movie and potluck night!!!! There was amazing food, and the movie was absolutely brilliant. Everyone in attendance pitched in to create an awesomely appetizing array of food. The main course, was Cane's chicken, which made the night that much more epic. There was also apples, popcorn, chips, cookies, cupcakes, "Buckeye Chow", and various other goodies. As if the food wash't treat enough, The Prestige starred both Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman as magicians who are pitted against each other in a bitter rivalry to have the best trick. Of course, I won't ruin the movie for anyone who hasn't seen it. However, with the twisted web of secrets, magic, and science, as well as beautifully orchestrated relationships, I suggest this movie to anyone with a pulse. The night wrapped up early enough for proper rest for classes the next day, and it was all around fun. I would thoroughly enjoy more movie nights such as those in the future, and definitely recommend the experience to anyone. It was a blast!!!

  1. Michelle, I completely concur! The movie was so awesome, we had to watch it a second time! The food was great, and the event was a success.

  2. I am a big fan of the Autumn season, and what a better way to kick it off than watch a dark movie such as "The Prestige." Plus, it starred Christian Bale, so life doesn't get much better than that. The food was tasty, but what I really enjoyed was making the potluck dish. One of my fellow scholars and I got to take an adventure to the Blackburn kitchen and see what cooking in college is all about. To say the least, THAT was an experience in itself, and the "Buckeye Chow" we made (aka Puppy chow) was lip smacking good. I definetly loved this event and there should be movie nights more often!!

    1. I'd heard great things about "The Prestige," and it sure lived up to the hype! The dynamic between Bale (one of my all-time favorites), and Jackman, shot in the recognizable and scenic Christopher Nolan fashion, was fantastic.

Adding Cane's and home-made puppy chow was a glorious stroke if brilliance. Here's to many more potlucks in years to come!

  3. That movie was the greatest thing I've ever seen. Christian Bale is a babe haha but I also liked all the twists. I don't know if it's me just being geeky but I noticed the symbolism when there were the 2 birds for the magic trick and one of them had to die. This happened for the magician with a twin and I thought it was cool how it foreshadowed that one of the twins would have to die.

I also thought it was really sad how much time both of these men spent putting in revenge. In the end, I think they both lost and it shows that revenge really doesn't solve anything at all.

  4. That was a lot of fun! Of course getting free food was fabulous, but I also really enjoyed getting to chill and watch a movie (without doing homework on the side).

  5. I loved watching The Prestige with my fellow Humanities members. It was a fun way to relax and do something fun together. I also liked that it was potluck. Even though we don't have our own kitchens it was fun to see what people came up with to bring.

  7. I had never seen this movie before! It kind of freaked me out at the end but it actually was a really good movie! I enjoyed all the free food-the Canes and the Buckeye Chow especially. It was nice to get out of the dorm for bit and just chill with some food, friends, and a good movie.

  8. This was my first time seeing The Prestige. It is one of those movies that makes you think, which I really enjoyed. I have always been more of a book reader than a movie watcher, so seeing this movie makes me want to read the novel that it is based on now. Overall, this was a very enjoyable evening. The assortment of snacks were also great.

  9. I loved The Prestige. It was a great choice by my fellow humanities scholars and the food was delicious. It gave me some time to spend with my mentors and fellow "mentees", which is priceless, in itself!

  10. The Prestige was great and I was happy to see a really good movie that was new to me. It was also my first experience with Cane's chicken which was great. I'm excited to see what other movies the people from this program introduce me to.
