Humanities Mentor Meet-and-Greet
All four of us in the room are Humanities Scholars, but one of us went to Quiz Bowl, and another had an art class. So my one roommate and I were to be the only two in the room to attend the Community meeting. Somehow, 6:30 rolled around and we realized at 6:35 that the meeting started! We rushed across the way to Royer, and fortunately arriving late is acceptable. Signing in, we searched for a seat, but found none. Consequently, we sat on the floor along the wall, not realizing we would be positioned right next to where Ben would be speaking form. We took notes during the meeting for our MIA friends, and after the meeting ice cream was served. There were so many cups of ice cream, and all sorts of flavors, that Ben insisted we take two (or three). Then confusion abounded as mentors and mentees struggled to find each other. After a while of mingling, our mentors found us and we sat down to chat. It turned out to be great fun, as we played two truths and a lie, then talked about random and interesting things until we were the last ones to leave.

Had a great time at the meet and greet with my roommates and mentor! It was very informative. I enjoyed meeting other humanities scholars!
ReplyDeleteI agree, it was exciting to have everyone in the same room, but I'm excited for our first Humanities Scholars survey class on Monday for a less chaotic meeting :)
ReplyDeleteOur mentors were kind enough to get together with us before the Mentor Meet and Greet. So at this Humanities Mentor event we continued chatting like old friends and got to know each other more. We have plans to get together after the first football game and hang out, my roommates and mentors. I really enjoyed knowing a few Humanities Scholars that already know what they're doing. (:
ReplyDeleteThe Mentor Meet and Greet was a great way to welcome us new buckeyes into the Humanities family! It's great knowing we've got a group of upperclassmen very, very willing to help us out in any way, shape or form. My mentor/mentee group was actually the very last ones to leave. We were just talking up a storm and the Mentors had a lot of useful information and tips to share with us youngins'. I think the Mentor group is a great program offered to us, and I can't wait until Mentor week!
ReplyDeleteI was lucky enough that when I first walked into the community not only were my mentors sitting side by side, but I took a seat next to them so it was super easy to find them. I really enjoyed meeting them as fellow commuters and hearing their tips and tricks on safety and how to keep involved even though I don't live on campus.
ReplyDeleteI thought the Meet and Greet was a great way to get the mentors and mentees to spend time together. We got to talk about just random things, and we planned out a few things to do together as well. My mentor group had a great time talking and laughing together at the meet and greet.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed meeting one of my mentors, Briana, during this meet-and-greet. It was really relaxed and there wasn't much pressure. It's too bad that my other mentor couldn't make it that day! It was a really great time to just hang out and make plans for the future!
ReplyDeleteI was really glad to meet my mentors this night. I was afraid that they would be... I don't know, too impersonal? Or soemthing. But when I met them and we talked for a while we all loosened up and talked freely, which I am really grateful for because now I feel like my mentors are people I can meet up with and hang out with without feeling like a burden to my seniors.
ReplyDeleteBefore the meet and greet, I had only met my mentors once, and corresponded emails over the summer. I wasn't sure if they would be like how they described themselves in the email. It was great being able to talk to them while eating ice cream, getting to know each other even better. They're all really cool and awesome. They've even come by the dorm and given my roommates and me little presents for the school year.
ReplyDeleteThe mentor meet and greet was a great opportunity to meet our mentors for the first time! The initial conversation was awkward, to be honest, but as the night went on we loosened up and got to learn a lot about each other. My mentors are a great source of information about the Humanities program and I am glad to have met them!
ReplyDeleteI had a great time at the mentor Meet-and-Greet. It was really great to get to meet with older Humanities Scholars and talk with them for a while. They were all really great, and I enjoyed getting to know them. Ice-breakers have never really been a favorite activity of mine, but the ones we did weren't too painful. Ice cream, on the other hand, is always a plus.
ReplyDeleteThe Mentor Meet-and-Greet was a huge success in my opinion. It was a very nice, casual, and low pressure way to introduce us to our mentors. I really enjoyed getting to know them and what their interests were, as well as sharing my own. They also gave some really helpful advice on surviving our first year in the Hav!
